Tom's town is located next to a lake in which tom enjoys swimming in. There is a town square located in the middle of town and a school building located somewhere near there. At the edge of town there is a graveyard where there was a murder that was witnessed by tom. Another part in the book is where Tom and his friends set up camp. That is where they run away.

    Hannibal, Missouri
Tom Sawyer, the main character, lives in a little town in Missouri. Most children walk around barefoot except during church. The setting of this book is set in the 1800's. Boys and girls went to school then but girls where pulled out of school earlier than boys. For example, they would go to grade school, but none went to high school or college. The reason for this was girls never got to be scientists, authors, or teachers like boys. Women were usually stay-at-home-moms. Anyways, the schools were one room school houses. Back then electricity wasn't even invented yet so no one had any. Cars were very rare and only the really wealthy people had them so pretty much everyone walked to school or rode in a carriage.

    Cave ExplorationExploration-
For Becky's picnic, all the children decide to explore Mcdougal's cave. It is a huge cave, with many caverns. The children begin a game of hide-and-seek. Tom and Becky wander off from the others and get lost. They spend about two days in there with their only food being their "wedding cake". After Becky becomes too depressed and sits down to die, Tom uses kite string to find their way out. Before they leave though, Tom finds out that Injun Joe is in there too. In the end, Judge Thatcher locks up the cave and Injun Joe dies before Tom remembers to tell everyone he's in there.

Hannibal is a city in **Marion** and **Ralls** counties in the **U.S. state** of **Missouri**. Hannibal is located at the intersection of U.S. Routes **36** and **61**, approximately 110 miles north of **St. Louis**. The population was 17,757 at the **2000 census**. The Hannibal **Micropolitan Statistical Area** is composed of Marion and Ralls Counties.
Although the site of Hannibal was previously occupied by early settlers and Native American tribes, the city of Hannibal was founded by Moses Bates in 1819.[3] Although the city initially grew slowly to a population of only 30 by 1830, access to Mississippi river and railroad transportation fueled growth to 2,020 by 1850. Hannibal had gained "city" status by 1845[4] The city served as a bustling regional marketing center for livestock and grain as well as other products produced locally, such as cement and shoes, throughout the remainder of the 19th century and on to the present time.[5]

    ...
He was known as an American humorist, satirist, lecturer, and writer. Also called "The Father of American Literature, his birth place was Florida, Missouri in the United States. His death place was in Redding, Connecticut in the United States. His parents were Jane and John Clemens who were the parents of six other children not including Mark himself. Since he didn't have much time with all of his other siblings, he usually spent his time by himself, writing. The most popular of his writing was based on his life. For example, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer was based on his youth in Hannibal, starring himself as a little boy. It also was based on two of his schoolmates-John Briggs and Will Bowen. On the other hand, Huckleberry Finn was based on Mark's boyhood friend, Tom Blankenship. Sadly, his writing came to an end on April 21st, 1910. He was buried in his wife's family plot in Elmira, New York. -Raney J.
Mark Twain's Pen Names-Jimmy E.Mark Twain's real name is Samuel Langhorne Clemens. He had a lot of pen names before he decided on Mark Twain. Until 1863 he labeled all of his sketches with the name Josh. Additionally, he used the name Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass for a series of humorous letters. He maintained that his primary pen name came from his years working on Mississippi riverboats. Here the riverboat mans cry was "Mark Twain" meaning to mark on the line how deep in feet the water was.
    Childhood Jobs-
When Samuel Clemens was 17 years old, he left Hannibal behind so he could be a printer in St. Louis. While he was there, he became a river pilot's apprentice. He eventually became a licensed river pilot. (This is where the nickname, Mark Twain, comes in. See above. ^^) -Evan E =]

    ...
Mark Twain (born Samuel L. Clemens) birth was marked by the arrival of Haley's Comet on November 30, 1835. At the age of four young Clemens was brought to Hannibal, Missouri where he spent thirteen and a half years of his life, which are the setting for his most famous books, even though Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn call St. Petersburg, a fictionalized-and sanitized, idealized, and sentimentalized version of Hannibal their home. Clemens' dad , John Marshall helped young Clemens pursue his 'American Dream' always expecting hard work which to him was a success (although his family thought it brought them down a rung on the social ladder).
Later in his Life I found some facts that you might find interesting about what Mark Twain did in the last part of his life, here's the link to it,Mark Twain's later life
Mark Twain's successful life ened on April 21, 1910, but his spirit is still with us today - we all know who he was, and he lives on through his famous literature. His house that he grew up in is now open to the public as a museum in Hannibal. Tours of places Twain visited in New York City are given around his birthday every year. He's a historic figure that will never be forgotten. -Evan =]
